Angèle's cocoa

A Story of Courage and Resilience

More than 25 years ago, Angèle Kouakou planted her first cocoa field alongside her husband. Together, they dreamed of a prosperous future rooted in the land. But fate had other plans: after her husband’s passing, everything changed. The cocoa trees they had planted were failing, and Angèle found herself alone, responsible for both her children and the farm.

"I started withdrawing into myself, I was depressed… But when I looked at my children and thought about what needed to be done for them, I found the strength to keep going."

With courage and determination, she replanted new cocoa trees. This year, after years of hard work and patience, her plantation is finally in full production. Angèle is more than a farmer — she is a fighting mother, a courageous woman, and a true example of resilience.

Her message to all women is clear:

  • Never let challenges bring you down

  • Always arm yourself with courage and vision

  • Rise after every fall and keep moving forward, even with scars

Her goal: to produce abundantly, make the most of her cocoa farm, for herself, her children, and to inspire her community.

Yams and Cassava for the Community

An Inspiring Story

In the heart of Daloa, Côte d’Ivoire, lives a woman whose life is deeply connected to the land. At 36, Edith Kouamé embodies determination, discipline, and passion — qualities that turn small beginnings into big dreams.

When she started her farm with just half a hectare, many doubted her.

But Edith did not give in. With courage and patience, she cultivated her land, sowed her willpower, and reaped her first successes. Today, she farms one and a half hectares of cassava and yams, feeds part of Daloa’s population, and earns the respect of those who once criticized her.

"I am proud of what I have accomplished. The same people who discouraged me yesterday now come to ask for my advice."

For Edith, agriculture is not just a means of livelihood. It is her passion, her mission, and her contribution to the development of her community.

Her vision is even bigger: to expand production to feed more of Daloa’s population and, eventually, reach the economic capital, Abidjan. Through her work, she aims to show that local agriculture, carried out with passion and dedication, can play a vital role in food security and the development of her country

Founded in 2017 in Kimpese (Kongo Central) by Mama Béatrice, a nurse-midwife specialized in community health in tropical settings, Torrent de Kérith was born from her fight against malnutrition and her deep desire to improve the health of her community.

Spread over 26 hectares, the farm combines sustainable agriculture (vegetables, staple crops, fruits) with responsible livestock farming (pigs, chickens, goats).

Its practices blend innovation, ecology, and solidarity :

  • Natural fertilizers derived from livestock

  • A network of trained farmers

  • Partnerships with local women (mamas)

  • Internships for agronomy students

  • Products accessible to the community

  • Donations for the most disadvantaged

Torrent de Kérith is committed to :

  • Promoting sustainable and ethical agriculture

  • Providing affordable food products to the community

  • Supporting the empowerment of local farmers

  • Assisting vulnerable populations through food donations

  • Offering practical training for agronomy students

Today, Torrent de Kérith and Mama Béatrice are seeking partners to:
